Forest Lake Area High School Band Director Barry Zumwalde has been named the next President of the Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA), the professional organization for all music teachers in Minnesota. Zumwalde was announced as the President Elect at the annual meeting at the MMEA Midwinter Clinic in Minneapolis on Feb. 17.
"It is a tremendous honor to be elected," Zumwalde said. "I am excited to be a part of the board of an organization that supports music teachers and music education throughout Minnesota."
All candidates must be officially asked to run for the position in the fall to be considered for the presidency. Each candidate is then required to submit a biography of teaching and professional experience and a vision for the organization. All candidates must be current members of MMEA and active music teachers within the state of Minnesota. A ballot with the list of candidates is then sent to all members. All candidates are notified of the results shortly after the voting deadline.
Zumwalde will officially begin his presidential duties in May. The duties performed in the position will fall within the six-year term divided into three, two-year parts.
