Special Education

Special Education services will be offered to support students through the Individual Education Plan process and in consultation with each student's case manager. Students are encouraged to register for regular education courses through the registration process. Adjustments will be made as deemed necessary.

Transition Reading
(Teacher or case manager recommendation required)
This course is recommended for students who need to improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary skills. Course topics will vary. Content covered will be designed to meet the individual needs of the students enrolled. This course may be repeated.


Transition Math 
(Teacher or case manager recommendation required)
This course is designed to meet the needs of the students enrolled. Topics that may be covered are: number sense, integers, algebraic, problem solving, introduction to geometric figures, probability, linear functions, number sense and more. Course topics will vary. Content covered will be designed to meet the individual needs of the students enrolled. This course may be repeated.


Transition Writing
(Teacher or case manager recommendation required)
Students needing to improve their written language skills may be enrolled in this class. Course topics will vary. Content covered will be designed to meet the individual needs of the students enrolled. This course may be repeated.


Transition Social Skills
(Teacher or case manager recommendation required)
This course will be based on improving student’s social skills. Topics covered may include, effective communication, positive social interactions (professional and personal), flexible thinking, maintaining focus, self-advocacy, behavior management, coping strategies, and personal responsibility. Course topics will vary. Content covered will be designed to meet the individual needs of the students enrolled. This course may be repeated.


Transition Organization
(Teacher or case manager recommendation required)
Students who need to improve organization skills may be enrolled in this course. Students may work on using a planner, budgeting time, organizing their physical space, organization of notes, and planning for long term assignments and projects. Course topics will vary. Content covered will be designed to meet the individual needs of the students enrolled. This course may be repeated.


Transition Independent Living
(Teacher or case manager recommendation required)
This course covers topics in the transition areas of home living, community and recreation/leisure. Students may work on meal planning and cooking, budgeting, and a variety of functional math and reading skills, depending on individual IEP goals. This course may be repeated.


Transition Employment
(Teacher or case manager recommendation required)
This course offers vocational opportunities in school and in the community. Students work on job skills such as: being on-task, following directions, responding to supervisors, being respectful, being prompt, communication skills, and customer service skills. This course may be repeated.


Transition Post Secondary
(Teacher or case manager recommendation required)
This course will help prepare students in developing a “Transition” pathway when he/she completes their requirements for graduation. The student will finish the class with a completed portfolio compiled with career and job relation information. This may include course content areas of: communication skills, diversity awareness, personality traits, career investigation, post secondary options, soft skills, and real-life living skills. This course may be repeated.
